History of the Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand

Founded by Colbert Brown in 1996, the Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances for over 18 years. The Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand has actively sought to enrich the lives of girls and boys.  We are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.  We are located in the heart of Myrtle Beach between Mr. Joe White Ave and 21st Ave North in the Booker T. Washington District.

Today, more than 250 young people at risk and in need are taking advantage of the programs, activities and services provided by the Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand. Over 1400 are reached through our Community Outreach Program. Our vision is to provide a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who comes through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand provides a safe and supervised environment for school-aged youth (the majority of whom come from single-parent families of limited financial means) where they can take part in positive activities & programs during the critical hours when they are out of school and their parents are away at work or school. Each year during the summer time, the Club offers a Summer Day Camp program. Our Summer Day Camp program targets youth 5 to 12 years of age who are “at-risk” of being left home alone without adult supervision. We also provide a summer club for teens ages 13-18. In addition to that, we also offer a volunteer Junior Staff member program for youth who are 13 – 15 years of age during the summer time and paid Program Aide positions in our Youth Employment Program.
